SDH Capital is a family office based in Mayfair, London and Ras Al Khaimah in the UAE, owned by Malta based db Group. Our primary focus is to identify new international business opportunities and to manage the Group’s international interests.

In late 2025, SDH has successfully placed an oversubscribed bond offering of 60 million Euros

With a staff compliment of 2,500 the db Group operates in the hotel, restaurant and real estate sectors.

Our Business

Hotels

The db Group is the market leader in the superior all-inclusive market in Malta with 1,075 keys across two 2 properties, the db Seabank Resort + Spa and db San Antonio Hotel + Spa. The Group also owns and operates a boutique hotel in Valletta and has recently acquired the Xemxija Bay Hotel in St. Paul.

Furthermore, db has expanded into the five-star segment. Our Hard Rock Hotel in St.Julians is to open its doors in 2026 while our five-star Hard Rock Hotel in Ras Al Khaimah, built in 50-50 partnership with the Emirate’s governmental development entity, showcases our capability and ambition to take our expertise overseas. Both properties will be operated by the Group with other ultra-high-end hotel projects in the pipeline.

Over the past decade the Group invested heavily in human resources, processes and technology. This has enabled us to perfect our operating model. Therefore, our hotel resorts are today amongst the most sought after in the Mediterranean with travelers and international tour operators. With best-in-class occupancy levels and above industry profit margins db is a leader in hotel operations.

Our Business

Restaurants

The db Group has also sought to strategically invest in the catering industry by bringing to Malta globally recognised brands like Hard Rock Cafe’ and Starbucks.

Over a period of four years the Group opened 18 Starbucks stores which will increase to 23 by the end of 2026.  We also operate two Hard Rock restaurants with a third one opening in Q2 2026 at our new development in St. George’s Bay, in Malta.

We currently own and operate eleven independent restaurants across the Maltese Islands which will increase to 20 by Q2 of 2026. September 2025 successfully marked the opening of Aki London,  our flagship restaurant in London’s trendy Mayfair district.

Our Business

Real Estate​

The Group entered the property development market as a strategic move – to develop our own projects. Today, we expanded our operations to include other real estate ventures.

Our latest project is a mixed used development in St. Georges Bay, St. Julians, Malta – one of Malta’s prime seaside hospitality and entertainment locations.

With an investment of around €300m, the project will feature the Mediterranean’s third 5-star Hard Rock Hotel, a shopping mall, several bars and restaurants, the ORA Residences and 7,000 sqm of public space.

Slated to open in Q2 2026, this project also will also serve as blueprint for a similar development currently underway in the UAE.

Our latest project in the UAE will be a mixed used development on Marjan Beach in Ras Al Khaimah. The project will include a five-star Hard Rock hotel and Branded Residences together with several restaurants and beach clubs. The development is a beach front property facing the Wynn integrated resort on Al Marjan Island.

Jonas Vetter

Vice President Investments

Jonas is a graduate in International Business and Finance at Maastricht University, having studied also at Bocconi, and the University of Cologne, with a focus on real estate finance and business administration.

He has over twelve years of international experience in real estate, investments, program management and strategic advisory.

From 2017 to 2019, he was Investment Manager at a Munich-based family office, where he managed real estate transactions, venture investments, and development projects.

He later led the Global Business Programs department at Menarini Group, overseeing international product launches, investment and licensing deal management, and portfolio initiatives.

In 2025, Jonas joined SDH Capital as Vice President Investments, based in Ras Al Khaimah. He is also a published contributor to publications like Harvard Business Review and Rotman Management.

Nicholas Portelli

Managing Director

A graduate in finance and investments, Nicholas has been involved in financial services and real estate for the past twenty-five years. 

In his former role as Chief Executive of a listed financial services company, he oversaw the firm’s investment, insurance and property divisions and was responsible for property acquisitions in various countries around the world.

In 2012 Nicholas set up and managed a boutique real estate advisory firm based in central London. In 2022 he relinquished this role and was appoint Managing Director of SDH Capital.

Nicholas is a non-Executive Director serving on the Boards of companies involved in retail and real estate. He specialises in asset management and investments.

Robert Debono

Director and Group CEO

Robert graduated in management from the University of Malta and during his first years working in the Group he held various posts in the healthcare arm of the business working in operations, accounts and HR, gaining valuable experience in the different areas of the business.

The eldest of Silvio Debono’s four children, he was responsible of the rebranding and refurbishment of the Group’s restaurants in 2017 and also spearheaded the Group’s restaurants expansion with the opening of some of the flagship restaurants namely Nine Lives, Aki and Loa.  This expansion is still ongoing with other four new restaurants slated to be opened during this year.

Robert was appointed CEO in 2020 and sits on all the Group’s boards, including contract catering and healthcare.

Alan Debono

Director

Alan joined the company in 2017 and has worked his way up through the different positions within the Finance Department, pertaining to the various companies within the Group and becoming a certified member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) in 2020.  

Alan sits on the Group’s Board of Directors and is currently responsible for the Operational and Capital Procurement of the group’s ongoing and upcoming projects, while also working closely with the Group’s Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer.
